We were on our way to a birthday party tonight in Auke Bay... The girls and i were picking Bill up at work, but i forgot his shoes. We drove back home, and as we drove up Main Street, a black bear ran across our path! I'm guessing he was checking out the compost and trash bins again. He ran into my neighbor's garden, wandered around her house and came out in her side yard when i snapped these pics:
The first picture shows how far away i was (as curious as i am about the bears, i'm not crazy enough to get close!), the second pictures was cropped by my photo software.
I think it's nutty that there are bears roaming around my neighborhood, maybe that's why i haven't seen any in the basin!

I'm glad you have a healthy respect for the bear! Sounds like s/he is making her/himself right at home.
