Another beautiful day...

here in Juneau!  This is how i started mine...

After dinner, Bill walked the girls to the playground near our house.  While i tried to make sense of the playroom, Bill and M+M ran around kicking the soccer ball and climbing on the equipment.  It was a special treat as Bill wasn't supposed to be home until 9:30 tonight.  He was supposed to be flying back from Kodiak via Anchorage tonight, but arrived home early this afternoon after not being able to get into Kodiak due to fog there.  Yeah, fog!  :)

I said it with my mind!

MN: Mommy, did you bring the snack bag?

me: No, i left it in the car.  We'll only be in here a few minutes and you can get a snack when we get back to the car.

MN: But i asked you to bring the snack bag!

me: You did?  I'm sorry, i didn't hear you ask for anything.  

MN: I asked you to bring it with my mind.

me: I can't hear your mind, you need to use your words.

MN: I did use my words, in my mind!

Not you, mommy! My other parents!!

MR has 2 sets of parents.  Bill and i are Mommy and Daddy, but then there are her other parents who live in "Hawai'ian".  Her other parents let her do things that we don't, like... run in the parking lot, skip her nap, and give her a binky whenever she wants it (M+M currently use binkies for nap and airplane travel).  These "other parents" sound a little lenient, but who am to criticize?  However, i think their appeal has taken a hit as of yesterday...

MR: My other parents don't live in Hawai'ian any more.

me: Oh, no?  Where do they live now?

MR: Kansas.

MR=eating Old McDonald's for lunch, but my real favorite was going to Sandy Beach Playground with our friends

We met our friends at Island Pub for dinner...  Super good pizza!  MN loved having "uncut" orange juice in a grown-up glass.  After dinner, we headed to a very crowded Sandy Beach playground for some more fun and "hiking"...

Slippery mud, tree roots, and spider webs... Oh my!

This morning i headed out to Mt. Roberts Trail...  I do believe that getting to the trailhead is the hardest part!

     

But once you get on the trail, it's kind of pretty...

Until you run into mud that sucks at your shoes, tree roots trying to trip you up, and spider webs waiting to choke you!  I usually like the trails in the quiet of the early morning, but today the spider webs in the face and neck really got to me!

At least i could stop, rest, and enjoy the view...

Yup, the weather is soo nice that it was a 2 playground kind of day!  

This morning was the weekly meet-up organized by the girls' preschool.  It was held at Project Playground (built by the community), but we call it the Castle Playground because it has a giant castle in the middle.  The girls had a blast seeing their friends and riding on the tire swing...

After dinner, we crossed the bridge to Douglas Island and Sandy Beach.  I think we got the last space in the lot!  Both shelters were being used for parties, there were softball games on the fields, and lots of people on the playground and beach.  We spent most of our time on the playground, but wandered over to the sand before leaving for the night...

A lame start...

Today i cheated a little... I usually walk to the trail, but today i took the car!  I got a late start and taking the car allowed me a little more trail time than i would have had, it also allowed me to run to the store for milk after... for coffee!  :)

I started here at the official beginning of the trail...

 

     

Turned off here...

Turned back here...

I guess not such a lame start to my day after all!

Today was the 2nd of a predicted 7+day sunny day stretch of record breaking heat.  I'm trying to make sure we soak up as much vitamin d as possible.  Tomorrow: Project Playground!

Do Bear Bells Work on Porcupines?

It was a quiet morning on Perseverance Trail...  Maybe the bear bell really works!

I took the turn off for Ebner Falls this morning and was rewarded with this view of the top...

     

I headed back to the main trail thinking i would go a little further before heading home, when i saw a porcupine walking towards me.  I kept walking towards it trying to get a better picture, thinking that at any second it would hear the bell or see me and turn around.  I got pretty close (closer than it looks in the picture, i think my phone/camera zooms out!) before he suddenly saw me, turned around and showed me his quills...

It was a nice quiet hike compared to yesterday afternoon, but ti think i like the trail better this way...
