Got back to the trail this morning. There is still a smokey haze in the air...

Back to the trail tomorrow...

It's been over 2 weeks since i've posted anything about my morning hikes... However, I don't remember the last time i skipped a workout - guess it's time to take a day off! We had a week of rain, so i was at the gym... Then we lost our phone and internet service (again!), so i was busy catching up with posts about M+M... I woke up feeling sniffily this morning, so i opted for the gym instead of the trail (because of the smokey air). But enough of my excuses...

Here are some pictures from the last week in July...

On Monday, July 27th i headed to Mt. Roberts Trail for a change of pace. The forest is in full bloom, but again the spiders got to me. When i got to the branch of the trail that would take me back to Basin Road, i took it...

On Tuesday, July 28th, I went back to my favorite trail. I have long been trying to capture the crazy, flowy fog that hangs in the basin, and this is my best shot so far. I had a couple minutes before having to turn back, so i headed down the path to the overlook of Ebner Falls. I almost took a Devil's Club to the face, but managed to "found my balance" (as MN likes to say) before falling into it. The view was worth the near miss. On the way back down to Basin Road, i got a shot of the fog hanging over town.

On Wednesday, July 29th, i noticed how well groomed the trail is:

On Thursday, July 30th, i couldn't resist taking this picture of the clear, blue sky:

and of this sweet pink flower in a garden that i admire on Basin Road:

On Saturday, August 1st, i was told there was a young bear in the woods "up there". I wasn't sure if the person who passed along this information meant the wooded area between the road and the trail, or further up the trail in the woods. I didn't see it anywhere. However, i had forgotten my bell and decided that this was far enough to go by myself:

My sister, brother-in-law, and nephew arrive on Thursday afternoon. I hope the rain stays away a little while longer so i can show them all my favorite spots and discover some new ones too!

Where there is smoke, there is fire?

I woke up Monday to what i thought were cloudy skies... A little later i decided it was fog... Finally i decided to check the weather and learned that smoke from wildfires in both British Columbia and the Yukon are in Juneau. It was a smoggy haze this morning (Monday), but now i can smell that it is smoke and it seems to be getting worse. The smoke is expected to last until at least Wednesday.

Here is a picture from Monday taken at about 11 AM...

and Tuesday taken in the same spot, but at about 9 AM...

This is what the view usually looks like...

The smoke got worse throughout the day on Monday, but seems less thick today.

This is a picture of the Monday late afternoon sun from my driveway...

MN+MR=watching a show after bath

When Daddy leaves all the rules go out the window, just kidding! We ate an early dinner and then dropped Bill off at the airport for his 24+ hour trip. We stopped at the playground on the way home (my method of making bath time easier), and by the time we were home and clean and ready for bed, everyone (me included!) was hungry. I gave the girls a snack and let them watch Mickey Mouse before tucking them in for the night. I kept my hunger at bay until after 9pm when i watched Confessions of a Shopaholic with a big bowl of popcorn that i didn't have to share! ;)

A simple Saturday...

Saturday morning i took a longer hike and when i got back, Bill headed to the gym. Around 11 AM, we decided to take a drive out to the glacier to check on the salmon. We got to see some more fish, and also saw a young bear in the woods near the creek. This little adventure, was MR's fav of the day. On the way back into town, we stopped at Costco. For no reason that i can understand, this was MN's daily fav.
