M+M Daily Favs 9.5

MN=going to the new playground
MR=going to the new playground
AP=coming to M+M's house

Tonight i went out with friends for a mom's night at Twisted Fish. Since our friend G is out of town, i volunteered Bill to watch AP so A could join in the out to dinner fun. A and i had a great time walking through town on a beautiful evening and hanging out enjoying a couple drinks and delicious meal with friends, and AP was a welcome addition to M+M's evening ritual.

All summer we watched the construction at the Harborview Elementary School, we paid special attention to the building of the new playgrounds. Today, M+M finally got to try one out:

M+M Daily Favs 9.4

MN+MR=going to Mr. D's art show

Today was Juneau's monthly art festival, First Friday. Our friend D has pictures displayed at the Friends of the Alaska State Museum Store and we attended the opening. Although i had seen some of his pictures when we were invited to his home to celebrate Easter, i was struck by how beautiful they are! My favorite was a picture of seaweed with frost on the edges. The girls had so much fun running around the gallery space, and D was so nice to let them take a peek through his lens...

Just in time...

I was able to get to Perseverance Trail both yesterday and today. As we are losing about 5 minutes of light a day, i've been leaving the house later (closer to 6 than 5:30) and not getting as much time on the trail. It is supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow, so i'm thinking about trying to hike the whole trail again tomorrow, or maybe taking one of the spurs for something different... Tune in tomorrow for pictures! :)

There was a ton of fog yesterday, but i was happy to sneak in a hike before the rain...

Walking up the trail in the fog, turning around to take a clearer picture on the way back down:

When i got out of bed this morning, i grabbed a short sleeve shirt intending to head to the gym... Once i got in the car, i realized it wasn't raining as heavily as i thought and headed to Basin Road instead of the gym... I made it to the first big bridge...

M+M Daily Favs 9.2

MN=dancing with A+A+sissie
MR=playing the butterfly game and screaming and eating cupcakes with A+A+sissie

As much as i had hoped that going to school would be their fav today, it's hard to compete with fun times with friends! I was too busy gabbing with A to take pics of our kiddos playing, but here is a peek at the girls in action at school on their first day.

New kicks at my back door...

The mailman arrived with a giant box from Zappos today... Snow boots for me (not pictured) and new Keens for the girls (one pair pictured).
Have you ever seen so many water resistant shoes in one place? ;)

Morning Commute

Today was the girls' first day at their new preschool. Last year, we enrolled them in a school very close to our house. This year, we will be making a 20 minute drive to the valley 3x a week.

Because i wanted to be showered on on time for the girls' first day, i didn't hike but did hit the gym. The windows look out onto the channel and the view was spectacular this morning at 6:30 am. By the time we drove down the hill after 8 and onto Egan Drive to head north to the valley, the fog had rolled in....

As we headed back into town before 9, you can see the fog starting to lift...

And as i headed to the store at 10:30, it continues to clear...

M+M Daily Favs 9.1

MN=coloring
MR=riding bikes and scooters and doing chalks
me=going to Sandy Beach

Before nap today, we read a book about what lived before the dinosaurs. We came to a page that described a reptile that swam ad had a long neck like a brontosaurus. MN declared that her new favorite animal. After nap, i helped her trace it on a plain piece of paper and she colored it in.

The car was still being repaired today, so we had another day with an empty garage. MR was very upset when we picked up the car and i had to promise to park it on the street so she could ride her bike and scooter again soon.

After picking up the car this afternoon (thanks so much, A!), the girls and i headed over to Sandy Beach. Today it was low tide time and we had a blast running around, looking for dinosaur bones, and making sandcastles. It was another beautiful afternoon with my girlies. Tomorrow, they start MWF preschool. Even though it's only 3 mornings a week, and i am so looking forward to a set time for haircuts, dentist appts, and errands, i'm going to miss them!

September Morn...

On this first morning of September, it was foggy in the channel (we could hear the ship's fog horns), but beautiful on Main Street and in the basin...

Chocolate cake

I was folding laundry and watching Rachel Ray when MN woke up. She decided she wanted to read books while i finished folding the laundry, but wandered into our bedroom to keep me company instead. After a few minutes, RR came to an end and i switched onto Food Network. A show was on the i have never watched before, but MN piped up: "Oh, I love this show!" I suggested we go downstairs to make cookies, but she said: "No, Mommy. I really want to watch this show. I think they are going to put the food that they are making on a chocolate cake in the end." I don't care how much she looks like Bill, she is definitely my daughter! ;)
