MN+MR=going to dance class

M+M took their first dance class starting in January.  They had so much fun at the recital, that we signed them up for the summer class too.  They are still doing creative movement and learning elementary ballet, they have also started tap.  I love their shiny little shoes that tie with black ribbons, and i love watching them delight in the new noises they can make.  Dig, tap, dig, tap!

Without the rain...

there would be no rainbows:

There were showers this morning, but the weather cleared up nicely.  It was dry enough for Bill and the girls to go to the playground this afternoon.  After dinner, i took off for the store so i wouldn't have to drag the girls tomorrow.  When i left Fred Meyer, i saw a rainbow in the distance.  I stopped 3 times to take a picture.  As i drove along Egan Drive, i got closer and closer to the rainbow.  I saw where it fell into the water.  As i made my final approach and prepared to drive under the rainbow, i found myself driving through the rain instead...  The rainbow had disappeared as i drove around the corner by the harbor and into town.  I think that makes the third rainbow i have seen since arriving in Juneau.  Tonight it was a nice reminder that the sun is there, playing peek a boo in the rain.  :)

Yummy dinners!

For the last three nights, we have dined on the delicious salmon that Bill and his Dad caught Wednesday:

The Sun's Ankle

MN: It's not night time, the stars aren't up.
me: It is night time, we just get more light in Alaska in the summertime.
MN+MR: Why mommy?
me: Because of the angle of the sun.
MR: What's the ankle of the sun?

MN+MR=going on the tram with Grandma and Grandpa

A beautiful morning...

I haven't been out for a hike since before Bill left for Russia.  It was raining too hard yesterday for my hiking enjoyment, but i woke up today at 5 am and headed out.  It was a slow walk up the trail as i was chatting on the phone with my mom!  I lost the connection right before Ebner Falls, so all was quiet as i came upon the new bench and view of the falls...

New Neighbors?

While getting lunch ready yesterday, Bill's Dad caught sight of a bear walking up Main Street.  The bear used the crosswalk to cross from Main to 6th, walked up the steps to the house across the street, and headed straight to their compost bin.  It knocked the top off and climbed in.  After checking out the compost, the bear went behind that house and checked out the empty garbage cans at another.  Bill's parents and i were pretty excited.  M+M thought it was neat, but didn't want to miss their favorite show!  ;)

Playing Tour Guide...

Grandma and Grandpa Dwyer arrived Saturday afternoon for a week long visit to Juneau...

We had a nice, relaxing Father's Day.  Bill took his parents on a ride around town while the twins were napping, and we had a great dinner at Twisted Fish.

On Monday the girls and i took Grandma and Grandpa to the State Museum.
(M+M in the kids room: MN on the ship, MR playing I Spy)

On Tuesday, we went to DIPAC in the morning, and Grandma and i visited Rejuvenation Spa in the afternoon.

 (M+M at the touch tanks)

This morning, Bill and his Dad went fishing while Grandma, the girls and i did a little shopping downtown and drove out to Sandy Beach for a little playground time.
(Bill and his Dad heading out with Lucky Dog Adventure)

It is a beautiful breezy day, and we are hoping to take the tram up to the top of Mt. Roberts after the girls get up from their naps.  Our fishermen caught their limit today and we are looking forward to a dinner of fresh salmon tonight!

M+M have been taking a dance class with Miss Mika at TAFY here in Juneau since January.  This summer, the class is focusing on creative movement, ballet, and tap.  I always wanted tap shoes (but never wanted to take a tap class), so i think i was just as excited as they were!

Looking out...

From the kitchen window and from the window in the sitting room, we have a terrific view of Mt. Juneau.  There is a waterfall that has been running constantly since the snow melted that i love to stare at while i do the dishes.  Sometimes, the sky is clear and blue behind the mountain, but more often than not there are clouds.  Sometimes, the view is completely obscured.  Here a a few recent pics of how the view can change...

Looking Back...

In M+M's Daily Favs, Cheerios were mentioned...  Pictures were promised...

Last year in CT, a friend of M+M's had a cute Cheerios Cook and Activity Book.  MR went crazy for it, so we added it to our library.  Two weeks ago, the girls each picked a recipe from it and we made it together.  This week, we did a craft.  I think they both had more fun playing with the pipe cleaners and tasting the Life Savers than actually trying to make animals!

MR=watching Sesame Street

This afternoon before nap and tonight before bed, the girls and i looked through the books that we have made for Bill for Father's Day the past 4 years.  (I don't think the one i made him this year is going to arrive in time, even though i paid extra for express shipping!)  For me, it's so fun to see how big the girls are getting, but MN's favorite pic was one from last year featuring a green dinosaur toy that still hasn't made it's way out of a box yet.

Tonight, in a moment of weakness, i let the girls watch tv during dinner...  At least it was PBS!  ;)

MN=rearranging our toys
MR=eating applesauce

About once a month, i try to move the girls' toys to different areas of the house.  This month...  The play kitchen was moved out of the bedroom and into the playroom...  The stuffed animals moved from the living room to the playroom...  Dress up clothes, ponies, and animals moved from the playroom and into the bedroom...  Dinosaurs moved from the playroom into the living room.

As a snack before dinner, M+M sat at their table and had 2 helpings of applesauce.  They haven't had it in a while, i guess MR really missed it!

From her lips...

Two night ago, i caught sight of Bill's mini tape recorder on his bookshelf and it gave me an idea...  I thought it would be nice for our family and friends to record themselves reading M+M's favorite stories.  I thought it would be fun for M+M to hear their loved ones' voices on demand.  So i wouldn't forget, Bill passed the tape recorder to me and put it on my nightstand.

I love sharing "kidquotes" and "kidversation", but i'm always afraid that i'm leaving something out and not getting it right...

Tonight, while i was getting MN dressed after bath, she was talking up a storm about the elaborate ball she had planned.  I saw the tape recorder, grabbed it and pressed record...

When you read this to yourself, try to imagine a sweet, raspy, excited voice..

....because everybody gets to have food at the party and everybody get to to "?" their own favorite dance and their favorite flower to put in their hair and the trees can slide it into your hair and then and then you can get you can put "?" on your dress and in your hair and brush and you always have to put your ear your ring on so your fingers can look pretty and everybody has to wear and everybody has to wear earrings and a crown.  And who has a flower crown gets to dance with the prince and i know who has a and i gets to dance with the prince.  And who has a flower crown gets to dance with the prince.

There is no way i could have gotten that right!  :)

M+M Daily Favs 6.11 - Bill, Don't read this one!

MN=doing my dinosaur paints
MR=playing with my sister and my mommy

I swear, i didn't bribe MR to say that!  ;)

MN's answer surprised me...  The "dinosaur paints" is actually a little wooden dinosaur that she is painting Bill for Father's Day.  She painted it yellow, then added brown spots (like a giraffe), then she wanted to make it rainbow...  MN likes to pile paint over paint over paint creating works of art that take days to dry.  Finally i told her that she would have to wait until tomorrow for the paint to dry, and she screamed at me that she wanted to do it "RIGHT NOW, NOT TOMORROW!"  (There was a lot of pleading, screaming and crying that i decided to leave out!)  She ended up taking a time out while MR made a beaded necklace.  I know she liked the painting part, but i thought her time out would have adversely affected the fun she had.  I'm glad she was able to recognize the fun part and remember it as a good time.

While playing at Sandy Beach playground with friends after a picnic dinner, MN made herself a little tree.  When we got home, she insisted i put it in water.  She wants to make sure it doesn't wilt.

Yesterday, MR was demanding Old McDonald's.  With her own version of the restaurant's name, it's hard to resist her!  Today, since Bill is out of town, the girls had a treat for lunch.  I only stole a few of their fries!  ;)

MN=eating cupcakes and cake
MR=celebrating mommy's birthday

Today was my birthday... We made cake (chocolate with chocolate frosting) and cupcakes (chocolate with vanilla frosting and sprinkles).  MN tried both and especially enjoyed the frosting on each.  MR, who is know to actually eat the cupcake, stuck to just the frosting tonight.

My favorite part of today was lounging on the fuzzy carpet after lunch ready stories with my girls.

Super early start to my day...

Today i was out the door before 5am!  I needed to be home by 6:30am, so i had to get a move on...

but rain is not expected until Friday.

Luckier Number 8!

Today was the eighth day in a row of warm temps and sunshine!  In December there were 9 days in a row without rain, but not all of them were sunny...  With over 16 hours of daylight, the nice weather has been fabulously fun!!

This morning we went to church and then to Sandy Beach...

When the tide started rolling in (we almost lost poor T Rex!), we headed home for lunch and nap time...  After naps (for the girlies, no rest for the wicked!!), Bill took them to the playground.  They arrived home just in time for an early dinner as we planned to venture out after eating.

We decided to take a walk on the Flume Trail.  It seemed like a good idea at the time, but MN almost fell off one of the bridges...  She fine, just a few scrapes, but she really scared herself and her parents!  Except for the moment when i looked down and saw her clinging to the edge of the bridge, we had a great time...

No, she didn't fall while dancing on the bridge...  Just while walking!  Apparently, Bill and i are not raising graceful children!!  However, new Flume Trail Rules: HOLD HANDS WITH A GROWN UP! should help prevent future incidents.

Lucky to have a nice stretch of weather?  Sure...  Lucky that our daughter is safe in bed?  Absolutely!  :)

MN=going to church because I got to have orange juice
MR=going to the flume trail because I like all the falling water

MN loves "church orange juice"...  We always serve her "juice" that is more than half water, so the "uncut" stuff they serve at church is a big hit!

MR loves the water falls along the Flume Trail!  Due to all the sun and warm temps this week, the water is raging...

Look at all the pretty flowers!

This is where is was at 6:30 am this morning...

And these are some the beautiful wildflowers i saw on my hike...

M+M Daily Favs 6.6

MN=shopping for bunk beds
MR=singing to "Lady Baltmore"

MN loved the loft bed with the slide, too bad it wasn't a bunk bed!  She has put that bed on her wish list!!

MR loved seeing the eagle at the top of Mt. Roberts, Lady Baltimore.  The nice lady who sit with Lady Baltimore told us that she got her name because she sticks out one of her talons while she is eating, like a lady drinking tea.

Lucky Number 7!

Today was the seventh day in a row of beautiful weather in Juneau...  When i found out we were moving to Alaska, i never thought i would spend a week in shorts running fans to cool down the house!  It's been crazy, but we have tried to enjoy every minute of it!

We started the morning by taking the tram to the top of Mt. Roberts.  There is a short 1/2 mile hike at the top that we tried to do with the girls, but MR was "running out of energy".  Fortunately for MR, the trail was closed due to snow still lingering at the top.  Instead of hiking, we hung out with "Lady Baltmore" (Lady Baltimore), the rescued eagle who lives outside the nature center.  MR sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to her, and i wish i could have gotten a picture of Lady's expression!

After our trip down the tram, we went hunting for bunk beds.  We were not successful.  Usually i don't mind the limited shopping in Juneau, there are so many free shipping offers these days that with a little advance planning you really can get almost everything you need/want, but i haven't found any free shipping offers for bunk beds yet!

We had lunch at home, and then the girls went down for a nap.  After nap, Bill took them to the playground while i went shopping downtown.  We tried to eat dinner early so we could head over to Sandy Beach, but that is where our luck ran out...  M+M are very slow eaters at dinner time.  By the time they finished, we decided that an early bedtime was in everyone's best interest!

Tonight we are looking forward to lucky number 8!

A night at the glacier...

Tonight we took a picnic to Mendenhall Glacier.  We walked around the lake and toward the big falls.  The girls had a blast digging in the sand, dancing, and "trailblazing".  We haven't been out there since March, what a great night it was to visit...
