Catching up...

It only took me 5 days to catch up with all the laundry, download all the pictures, go through all the mail, and generally feel back at home after our great trip to Kodiak and Anchorage last week... Phew!  After 12 days of sun, it's raining again in Juneau... So that helps me feel more "normal" as well, or at least willing to stay inside and get things done.  ;)

FRIDAY
We had a great day in Anchorage...  We left Kodiak on the salmon plane:

After picking up our rental car, we headed straight to the zoo.  We saw baby moose:

black bears playing (MN named them land wrestler and water wrestler "Because they are wrestling on the land and in their pool!"):

and even visited the goats in the petting zoo:

Although a family we met in the Kodiak airport weren't huge fans, i really liked the zoo!  It had pretty fence lined gravel walkways with tons of flowers.  Each exhibit had information about the species of animal, as well as information about where each animal had come from and how it made its way to the zoo (the majority seemed to be rescued animals).  There were new enclosures/habitats for the polar bears, tiger, brown bears, seals, and river otters and more being built.  If we get back to Anchorage, i will definitely head back again!

After the zoo, we headed to the Moose's Tooth for lunch...  Great apple ale and pizza!  I wish they would open a Juneau location!!

After lunch, we stopped at REI for a little shopping and inspiration...  I picked up some Bogs for M+M for the upcoming winter (i picked up a pair in Seattle last fall and love them!), and we spent a great deal of time wandering around the camping section.  Bill really wants to camp out with the girls.  I'm all for it, but now we just need the rain to stop...  I am not camping (by choice) in the rain.

Our next stop was the Alaska Museum of Natural History.  It didn't look like much from the outside, but the girls loved looking at the bones, and animals.  They could touch almost everything, and it had a great children's area too:

We had some time to spare, so i made it into Target (left only with a box of Mike and Ike's for the plane ride home, but oh how i loved to look!) and we treated ourselves to a fast food smorgasbord for dinner: Bill=Wendy's, me=Quizno's, and M+M=McDonald's...  Yum!

We headed back to the airport, returned the car, and wandered around the airport until the last possible minute...  Right as we were about to get in line, the girls shouted in unison, "I have to go potty!"  The three of us made a mad dash to the closest restroom and it was worth it not to have to take them to the bathroom on the plane!  As we were getting inline, again, an attendant called us to her desk and offered to upgrade us to first class!  Bill has so many miles from all his travels that he gets upgraded regularly, but i've been waiting years for this treat!  It was a much comfier seat and i really liked the free drinks too!!

SATURDAY
After a week away, it was nice to come home to a sunny day!  I did loads of laundry and cleaning and we ran a few errands too...  Picked up sleeping bags for the family, a cooler, a camp grill, and food...

SUNDAY
As a thank you to our friends who drove us to and from the airport, we invited them over for dinner on Sunday night.  When the weather stayed nice, we made it dinner on the beach instead...  We put our new cooler and grill to good use and toted burgers, dogs, potato salad, etc to one of the shelters at Auke Rec.  We drank and snacked and cooked while the kiddos played on the beach, and then moved the party out of the shelter and onto the beach for a campfire complete with Jiffy Pop and smores... Yum!

MONDAY
Back to work and back into the swing of things...  The girls had dance workshop (1 hour a day for these 2 weeks) and dance class (1 hour every Monday)...  Bill went out and bought the bunk beds and a chest freezer for the garage (finally i'll have room for ice in the kitchen freezer!)...

TUESDAY
Bunk bed day...

WEDNESDAY
The rain returns...

Looking over this post before i hit publish, it seems long and rambling... Thanks for sticking with me and letting me share some day to day stuff along with our Alaskan adventures!  :)
